With the release of my newest book baby, Die For Me Again, into the world, it has occurred to me that not enough people read independently published works. This came to me, naturally, while contemplating the visibility of my work and the options open to me for spreading the good news.
The most rewarding avenues open to indie authors cost beau coup bucks and many of us are already working full-time jobs elsewhere just to scrape by buying books, feeding our chosen familiars and paying rent (typically in that order). But to spend hundreds of dollars on advertising, pushing our work in front of reviewers and getting name recognition going? It simply isn’t feasible.
So what do we do? Well, we stomp and whine for a little bit, and then we pull up our big girl (or boy) breeches, and get to networking. Facebooking, Tweeting, Pinning, Instagramming and even Tumbling. We do everything we can to make friends, help out our fellow indies and somehow get our name out there and our books into the hands of readers.
But what are we reading? The newest release from our favorite big author? Why aren’t more of us picking up the books of fellow indie authors and helping spread the word about the amazing world of Indie Books? I am ashamed to say I have neglected my fellow indie authors for too long.
No longer will I sit on the sidelines and wait for the world to fall into my lap. I’m going to go get it, and I’m going to drag along as many indie authors as I can!
So, starting tomorrow, I will be doing an Indie Book Tour – reading & reviewing my fellow indie authors. My goal is to read at least two indie books a month (for budgetary reasons I am not committing to more at this time) and posting my review here, Goodreads, Amazon & linking to all on Facebook & Twitter.
